Mercury is an element found in many common household items including compact fluorescent lamps (CFL). If a product containing mercury breaks, the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) recommends some of the following steps:
1) Have people and pets leave the room immediately.
2) Open windows or doors to ventilate the room for 10-15 minutes before returning to the room to clean up. Turn off central heating and air for several hours.
3) Collect the broken glass and visible powder but try not to touch it directly. Wear protective gloves or consider using a bar of soap to pick up the pieces.
4) Place clean up materials in a sealed container before discarding.

Spring has arrived and I am updating and reposting a series of posts I ran last year when I visited some of the many “micro markets” found on the San Francisco Mid Peninsula real estate scene.
It is raining outside and I thought it would be a good time to look at some greenery on the San Francisco Peninsula and share some community knowledge. Today’s post looks at the Allied Arts section of Menlo Park.
Located between Middle Ave, Arbor Road, El Camino Real and San Francisquito Creek, Allied Arts is conveniently located within walking or biking distance of downtown Menlo Park and Stanford University.
The area is characterized by both charming quaint cottages and larger new homes. Verdant gardens and tree lined streets support a strong sense of community and charm. The Allied Arts Guild is located at 75 Arbor Road.
As of today’s date, our multiple listing service currently indicates 5 active listings(class one single family homes) ranging in list price from $1,060,000 to $2,398,000. Currently there are 6 pending sales ranging in list price from $1,149,000 to $3,850,000.(This data does not include any sales not reported to multiple listing service)
The average days on market statistic for the pending sales was reported at 25 days on market. This is a high demand area and that is reflected by the days on market data for pending sales.
Tomorrow’s post will take a look at the Willows Area of Menlo Park. Later in the week, we will visit the Mt. Carmel area located in Redwood City. The San Francisco Mid Peninsula real estate market is defined by numerous “micro markets” each with a distinct character and price point.

As a listing agent over the past twenty years, I have sometimes had to counsel sellers who could not keep their pets after the sale of their home. Relocating out of the country, illness and unforseen changes often lead to rehoming the family pet. This process is emotional and can lead to dire consequences for the pet if not planned in advance. I often see emails where sellers have waited until the last minute to make arrangements for their pets. If you are moving and cannot keep your pets, please do not wait until the last minute to make arrangements. The more you can plan in advance the more likely a favorable outcome.
Often family or friends who are familiar with your cat or dog may step forward and provide a loving home for your furry friend. There are many animal rescue groups which can be contacted in advance to discuss fostering and ultimate placement with a new family. In San Francisco, we are fortunate to have groups such as Muttville that specialize in placing senior pets.
Do an internet search to research reputable rescue groups and discuss your options with your vetrinarian, family and friends. Your pet deserves your compassion and caring placement in the best home possible.

The City of San Carlos is currently facing a budget deficit estimated to be close to 3.5 million dollars. Closing this gap is proving painful and proposed remedies range from turning off lights to outsourcing police and fire department services.
Often compared to the fictional small town known as “Mayberry”, San Carlos enjoys a small town feel with all the conveniences associated with its location on the San Francisco Peninsula. . The area known as White Oaks is popular among buyers attracted to its tree lined streets and White Oak Elementary School.
